An IAU Professor Continues to Inspire Outside the Classroom

Dr. Verta Midcalf, professor of Business Organization at International American University, recently published her fourth book “All Eyes on Me: Racism is Alive and Well in America” and gives insight to some of her inspirations, and what she hopes will inspire others.

All Eyes on Me: Racism is Alive and Well in America is meant to educate others on the different aspects of racism and how it still continues to impact modern society. As an African American confronted with racism from her race against its own, Dr. Midcalf said she felt the need to write a book that raises awareness about racism due to lack of education of others and their differences. “Fear is the conduit through which our society exists and sharing educated information concerning what we fear is the best way to allow our society to adjust their thinking toward others and their differences,” she said.

Dr. Midcalf advocates several key messages in the book:

  • Let racism and hatred be a thing of the past.
  • Let us learn from our history to never make the same mistakes for a brighter future.
  • Let us teach our children to love one another, no matter their color.
“I believe that education of the masses will help to eliminate fear and hatred in our society. My books lean toward inspiration for our children, who are our future,” Dr. Midcalf said. “I plan to write more books. As I am inspired to share educated information, I will. The type of books will be more of the same: education, inspiration, and philosophy; and, an autobiography of my life, in the future.”

All Eyes on Me: Racism is Alive and Well in America is available for purchase online at www.drmidcalf.com for $10.00. Her other written work includes From My Heart to Yours, an inspirational guide of famous quotes and messages geared toward self-help; Studying Geography and History Made Easy, a factual account of major geographical and historical concepts for children; and Through the Eyes of Others: Inspirational Emails of a Conscious Driven Woman, a motivational guide filled with self-help passages.

Dr. Verta Midcalf has been a professor at IAU for four years. She was also one of the first faculty members to teach online courses. “The best part of working at IAU is the education of the international students,” she said. “It allows me to reach out and help educate our world, not just our U.S. students.”
